Crouch End Tigers 25 – 9 Camden Kongs
- Updated: May 8, 2016
Crouch End Tigers vs Camden Kongs
Kongs – J. Reed, Cavanagh, Hobbs
Tigers – Morris, Nunnery, Mason
1st Third
Last year’s runner’s up Camden Kong’s appeared without their talismanic Captain David Reed, but with John Reed still in their midst they had hopes of starting with a victory. Richard Morris was back to lead the tallest team in Volfsball against the team in red. The first third was a masterclass in shooting by Joe Nunnery. The former basketball player was left unmarked by some lax defending and hit all of this three shots in the first third, two of them Volfsballs. After only three minutes the Kongs were 12-2 down and staring down the barrel of defeat.
2nd Third
The Kongs failed to heed the warnings of the first third and let the skillful shooting of the Tigers go unmarked, Nunnery hitting a record equaling third Volfsball and newcomer Luke Mason adding one. Last year’s MVP John Reed had replied with some ones, along with Cavanagh but at the third finished with the Tigers up 23-5.
3rd Third
No more Volfsballs in the last third. The Kongs clawed their way back to 25-9. Over the course of the match both teams hit the Volfsball stand 9 times, but four of the Tigers shots were Volfsballs. The teams on the sidelines looked both impressed and concerned.
Nunnery equalled the match record of three Volfsballs and 17 points set last season.
