Season Preview – Harringay Choppers
- Updated: March 14, 2016
After a slow start last season I’m pleased to say we finished as one of the in form teams and indeed cup winners and I’ll be hoping to keep that momentum going into the new season. We have yet to play a game without at least two players on bad hangovers as well so if we can get that down to only one player a game and not join the league halfway through the season I don’t see any reason we can’t be amongst the challengers this year.
What are you hopes and dreams for your team?
Captaining a Volfsball team is its own reward although there are a few areas of improvement I’ll be focusing on. First of all I am the only Chopper that can’t grow a lovely full beard so on a personal note I have spent the off season working on that aspect of my game. We also have yet to convince a girl to turn out for our team which we will be looking to put right this year although any woman will also be required to grow a lovely full beard which really only leaves YOUR MUM. Ha ha. Slam! A slam about your Mum there. Great stuff.
If you don’t win the league, who will and why?
We will definitely win the league. Probably twice. Failing that however, attendance is key which is why it’s hard to rule out current champions the Supermoons. If Larwood can match attendance with fitness this year then they have a great chance. But with an expanding roster of teams this year I’m expecting a few surprises. I would also count the West Wirral Snakehips as a good outside bet. They’ve recently rejigged their logo which could proved a huge psychological boost and also built their own Volfsball stand to continue playing through the dark winter months. I know a few Volfsball fans think this is cheating but you wouldn’t catch me saying that. I definitely don’t think the Snakehips are giving themselves an unfair advantage and should be docked points, I absolutely don’t think that. But I completely understand if you do. Which you probably do.
What opposition player are you most wary of?
