Kongs Vs Supermoons
27th June 2016
Starting Line Ups
Kongs –Reed (John), Whelan and Tuck. Sub – Reed (David)
Supermoons – Feilder, Larwood, Louw – Sub – McNeill
1st Quarter
The crowd eagerly awaited the match up between these two bitter rivals on this humid June afternoon. The first lady of Volfsball Gemma Whelan scored early to give the Kongs a lead, and then prolific scorer John Reed gave the team in red an early 2-0. advantage But this was to be the end of the Kongs points for the quarter as the normally accurate Reed could not find his mark and good passing and movement from the Moons put them up 4-2 in this top of the table clash.
2nd Quarter
The heat of the day was starting to get to both sides, as movement round the pitch slowed and accuracy dwindled. After an incredible moment of accidentally spinning the ball on his head Larwood hit two of five shots to put the Moons 6-2, while close marking shut down the Kongs. Whelan hit a point and narrowly missed a Volfsball to end the half 6-3 with all to play for.
3rd Quarter
Tensions mounted in the third as Louw clashed with David Reed and Tuck in a defensive battle. Despite McNeill dominating the defense David Reed scored his first ever Volfsball point as the Kongs threatened to claw their way back. However cross court passing by the Moons started to wear the opposition down and Louw edged the Moons ahead 8-4.
4th Quarter
Feilder was back on for Louw, as the Moons continued to spread the ball around. The Kongs realised they needed some big points to put them back in the game, but David Reed’s effort for a five point Volfsball shaved the hoop. The game finished 9-6 to the Moons in a cagey defensive battle of the Volfsball stalwarts.
