2017 season to start Late April
- Updated: March 16, 2017
Commissioner Larwood has set the provisional date for the new Volfsball season, the third season for this great sport. Weather depending the season is set to start in late April. Hopefully the season opener will be the Champions Shield which will see All Comer’s League Winners the Muswell Hill Supermoons face the Larwood Cup Invitational Holders and current World Champions the Camden Kongs.
New Subs
This year will also see the introduction of £1 to play. Volfsball Commissioner Larwood explains ‘Attempts to claw back the massive losses incurred through merchandise sales have failed, so to help pay for the website, the trophies and the equipment I have decided to introduce a pound to play rule, where everyone who comes to play chips in £1, so some of the costs are covered.’ Each team will also be asked to bring the customary bag of flour for the pitch. Anyone is welcome to come and play and matches take place in a school field near Highgate station in North London – follow the twitter account and facebook page for up to the minute details.
New Cup
Last year’s Larwood Invitational Cup was one of the most thrilling sporting events in sports history, partly down to the dramatic penalty shoot outs. So this year a new trophy will be added to the season events – The Shoot Out Shield.
The Shield will be played mid season on a day where six or more teams are present. Rather than full matches the shield will be a penalties only knock out event, where three penalties are taken by each team from the inner and outer attacking zone lines, and the teams with the most points progresses.
Here is the rough outline for the season ahead:
April – All Comer’s League Starts & Champions Shield
June – World Cup
July/August – Shoot Out Shield
October – End of season and Larwood Invitational Cup
